The Blue Ridge Parkway runs 469 miles through the Appalachian Highlands from Shenandoah National Park in Virginia to Great Smoky Mountains National Park in North Carolina. No trucks, no billboards, no traffic lights — just sweeping mountain curves, overlooks above the clouds, waterfalls, historic homesteads and the most spectacular autumn foliage anywhere in the world. Best ridden in September/October when the leaves turn. The road is free to travel, speed limit is 45 mph throughout, and there are campgrounds and lodges at regular intervals.
